Termination and redundancy

Termination and redundancy are a part of every business. Statutorily regulated systems (awards and registered agreements etc) and the common law (contracts) impact on termination. There are also a number of statutes that impose minimum standards that have to be met in relation to any termination situation (eg anti-discrimination laws).

The Federal Labor government will make changes that affect this topic area. For more information see Federal IR under Labor.

Unlawful dismissal actions are still available against any employer dismissing an en employee on prohibited grounds- eg dismissal based on age discrimination.
